LENOIR CITY TENNESSEE

Lenior City Tennessee

Lenoir City, TN, located in the county of Loudon, is located approximately 27 miles south west of Knoxville, TN on Tennessee Hwy 321. On Lenoir City’s southern boundary is the Tennessee River, Watts Bar, and TVA’s Fort Loudoun reservations. Nationally known as the “Lake Capital of the South”, Lenoir City, surrounded by three beautiful lakes, is home to great school systems, a great park system, and new state of the art public library. Lenoir City has five major federal highways passing through it or near it: U.S. Route 11, U.S. Route 70, U.S. Route 321, Interstate 40, and Interstate 75.

Native Americans occupied Lenoir City and its surrounding area for thousands of years before the first European settlers arrived. Judge David Campbell, an East Tennessee pioneer, was the first to settle in Lenoir City where he built a log cabin along with a gristmill in the early 19th century. Also in the 19th century, General William Lenoir was deeded a 5,000 acre tract of land , which is now Lenoir City, as payment for his services during the American Revolutionary War.
